Do’s: Best Practices for Builder Gel Application

1. Prep Your Nails Properly

Before applying Builder Gel, make sure your nails are clean, dry, and free from oils. Then use our Perfect Prep™ Primer to create the perfect base for long-lasting adhesion.

2. Apply a Slip Layer and Then Thin, Even Layers

A very thin slip layer should be applied first with your Builder Gel. Don't cure the slip layer and then the rest of the Builder Gel should be applied in thin layers and cured between each coat. This prevents lifting and ensures a natural, even finish.

3. Use the Right Lamp for Curing

Always cure your Builder Gel under our UV/LED lamp for 60 seconds to ensure proper hardening. Insufficient curing can lead to premature chipping or peeling.

4. File & Shape Before Applying Colour

Once cured, shape your nails with a Nail File before applying Gel Polish or Top Coat. This helps achieve a professional, salon-quality look.

5. Seal the Free Edge

Always cap the free edge of your nails with Builder Gel and Top Coat. This helps prevent lifting and extends the life of your manicure.

Don’ts: Common Mistakes to Avoid

1. Don’t Skip Nail Prep

Skipping proper nail prep, including cuticle care and dehydration, can lead to poor adhesion and lifting of the Builder Gel.

2. Don’t Apply Thick Layers

Builder Gel works best when applied in thin layers. Thick applications can result in an uneven finish, bubbling, or improper curing.

3. Don’t Over-File the Natural Nail

Excessive filing before application can weaken your natural nails. Light buffing is enough to create a good base for adhesion.

4. Don’t Rush the Curing Process

Under-curing your Builder Gel can leave it soft and prone to peeling. Always cure each layer for 60 seconds.

5. Don’t Apply Cuticle Oil Immediately

Applying Cuticle Oil directly after you've cured your nails for the final time will dull the shine. This is our biggest tip yet, wait until your nails have cooled down before apply Cuticle Oil to ensure ultimate shine!

I have 3 different colours of the builder gel plus prep and top coat. I find the builder gel rather thick and apply g thing layers is difficult. Can I thin it down by adding something or would warming it up in bottle help? Results I’m getting are rather thick and uneven as a result as once applied it doesn’t self level well. Help!!!
