Why We’re Proud To Be TPO, HEMA & TT-Free - Without Compromising on Quality If you’ve been following the recent updates around the EU ban on TPO in nail products, you might be wondering what it means for your at-home gel manicures. At 14 Day Mani, we’ve always been about two things: healthy nails and salon-quality results at home - no compromises. What is TPO? TPO (trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide) is a photoinitiator - a key ingredient in many gel and builder gels that activates under UV or LED light to cure and harden the polish. It’s what gives gel manicures that salon‑grade durability and glossy finish. Why has the EU banned it? As of September 1, 2025, the EU has classified TPO as a CMR Category 1B substance - meaning it is potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction. This classification is based on animal studies showing possible risks at high doses and triggered an automatic ban under EU Cosmetics Regulation, with no exemptions granted. In simpler terms: the ban is due to a precautionary approach - prioritizing consumer safety based on potential harm, rather than confirmed risk. So what does this mean for you gel manis? Gel manicures themselves are not banned: only those containing TPO. At 14 Day Mani, we don't just follow the rules - we're ahead of them. From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: to create nail products you can trust, without compromising on salon-quality results. Even before the regulation came into effect, we knew this was something we wanted to do. That meant spending months reformulating every single product to be TPO-free, and also HEMA-free and TT-free, with no compromise on nail health or the gorgeous, long-lasting results you expect from us. This wasn’t a quick decision - it meant months of testing, reformulating, and perfecting. But it mattered to us that when the regulations changed, our community wouldn’t have to worry. By taking a proactive approach, we’ve ensured that every gel polish and builder gel in our collection is not only compliant, but also gentler, safer, and more mindful of nail health. We're also HEMA-Free HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is another ingredient widely used in traditional gel systems to help adhesion. While effective, it’s also one of the most common causes of allergic reactions to gel products - linked to skin sensitivity, redness, itching, and in severe cases, long-term contact allergies. By removing HEMA from our formulas, we’ve created products that are safer for sensitive skin, kinder to your nails, and far less likely to cause irritation - all while maintaining the strength, shine, and wear that 14 Day Mani is known for. Why this matters for you: Fewer allergens, less irritation - perfect for sensitive skin Ahead of the curve on safety and compliance Still glossy, strong, and chip-resistant Our products deliver the same shine, strength, and lasting-power without TPO, HEMA or TT. We kept the strength, shine, and performance you expect from us. But we did it with ingredients that are better for you and safer to use at home. Our promise? To keep creating salon-quality nail products you can trust - because your nail health matters just as much as your manicure. Your nails get the best of both worlds: trusted, salon-quality wear with peace of mind built in. Still have questions?
